Strategic Plan

After months of work, the Strategic Planning Committee has created a guide for the people of East Orrington Congregational Church which I have the honor of introducing. As Pastor Carl states in the beginning of this guide, this document “is a reflection of prayer, conversation, discernment, and our shared desire to faithfully follow where God is leading East Orrington Congregational Church in the years ahead.” It reflects our goals as followers of Jesus Christ in response to God’s Word.
Our mission statement:
A loving, vibrant family deeply rooted in its community, EOCC welcomes all to encounter the transformative power of God, share in Christ-centered fellowship and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our vision statement:
At EOCC we strive to be the heart of a greater community, offering to people of all backgrounds and circumstances diverse opportunities for service, fellowship and spiritual growth. Through the teachings of Jesus, we aspire to equip each individual with the skills and support needed to become an ambassador of God’s grace and a catalyst for positive change. Through strong partnerships within our community, we grow together in love, purpose, and actions, amplifying our vision that all embrace and share God’s love.
As a healthy and growing church, we are called to listen for God’s direction and respond with intention, courage, and faith. Our hope is to create a church where every person feels heard, valued, supported, and inspired as they continue their own faith journey.
To do that well, we need to listen to one another. Through congregational surveys, committee reports, conversations, and opportunities to share ideas, we can better understand the hopes, needs, gifts, and dreams of our church family. When we listen to one another and seek God’s guidance together, we are better equipped to serve both our congregation and the communities around us.
The structure offered by a plan such as this gives all boards, committees, ministries, and groups a common set of goals. It is not meant to be a rigid roadmap, but rather a living document that will help guide us, encourage collaboration, and keep us focused on the things that matter most. We will revisit it regularly, celebrate our progress, and adjust our direction as God leads us.
Our committee has identified five strategic goals that we believe can help EOCC grow, thrive, and make an even greater difference:
Deepen Congregational Engagement and Spiritual Growth
Expand Community Outreach, Service, and Impact
Strengthen Intergenerational Fellowship and Integration
Build Financial Sustainability and Responsible Stewardship
Promote Compassionate Ministry and Social Justice
These goals represent more than a plan—they represent an invitation. They invite each of us to consider how our time, talents, resources, ideas, and faith can contribute to the future of EOCC. We recognize it will take the effort of every member to fully realize the personal and collective growth that we believe this plan outlines. Every group and committee leader will receive a copy of the Strategic Plan and it will be available on the website and/or in the church office. So, with grateful hearts and a spirit of enthusiasm, we invite you to join us. Let us pray together, dream together, serve together, and step boldly into the future God has prepared for EOCC.
